Want to have an ethical natural organic skincare line that lifts rural kids out of poverty and malnutrition?

Manam Climate Refugees

Our authentic oils are produced by women who have been displaced from their Manam Island villages by continuous volcanic eruptions since 2004. Their temporary care centres have turned into permanent homes and they face unimaginable hardships; including hunger, child malnutrition, conflicts and poverty.

Authentic Impact Sourcing

Our pure organic oils are produced from wild-harvested coconuts, seeds and nuts and cold-pressed by hand. Sourcing raw ingredients from women directly impacts their lives, making them economically self-reliant so they can feed their children nutritious meals, build resilient families and communities and reduce child poverty.

Our Strategy

Our strategy is to assist the climate refugees women to create economic value out of the great natural resources of nuts, seeds and plants that we are endowed with. We do this by training the women on how to extract the oils and we pay them fair price. We then find markets that would pay fair prices so we can pass the value back to these women and their communities.

What We Offer [Coming Soon]

We currently have over 500 litres of unrefined cold-pressed organic coconut oil that we are going through the testing and certification process. Thereafter, we will package for sale. We are also wild-harvesting and gathering "Sobari" seeds [also called Tamanu in the Pacific, and scientific name is calophyllum inophyllum] to produce oil. Your support in purchasing our coconut oil will enable us to invest in this second phase of our project.

Ongeg Organix

Ongeg Organix is a social initiative that creates an avenue for women in rural Madang, which includes Manam climate refugees, to derive economic value for skincare oils out of nuts, seeds and plants found in our rainforests.

The initiative connects our desire to progress our hobby of creating DIY natural homemade recipes for skincare to professional formulation so we can share the healing properties of our exotic botanicals with others.

We are passionate about helping people find natural solutions to their skincare concerns.  And in the process do our little bit to help reduce child malnutrition and child poverty in rural PNG by generating income for their mothers.

We ourselves come from rural PNG, and fortunate enough to be educated and have a job.  For that we are deeply grateful to our rural parents with very limited formal education who invested in us despite the many challenges.  They made copra from coconuts and planted and harvested cocoa to pay for our education.

Over the last 15 years, we have given back to our community by helping families start micro informal business, pay school fees for unfortunate village kids, and supported women & youth initiatives from our personal resources.

Over time, we realized that giving aid and charity will not lift people out of poverty.  Giving work and creating economic incentives for them to derive value from their land and resources is more sustainable and dignified.

Purchasing oil, seeds and nuts at fair value prices from women and girls puts them in charge and directly benefits their children.

Our skincare philosophy is:  “If you can eat the ingredient as food, apply it to your skin”.

When you buy from us, remember that you’re buying authentic organic oils that changes lives.

Organic Unrefined Virgin Coconut Oil

Source

Cold-pressed by hand by women from Dugulava No. 2 Village on Manam Island, Madang Province, Papua New Guinea. They have been displaced from their island for 17 years. Life in the care centres on the mainland is so harsh so despite the risks, they return to the island to wild-harvest the coconuts and extract the pure oil for cash to sustain their families.

Analysis and Certification

We are currently working with laboratories and certification bodies in PNG and Australia to analyse the oil's chemical content and organic, ecofriendly and fair trade certifications.

Authenticity

Vegan. Organic. No Preservatives. No additives. 100% pure. Cold-pressed by hand. Unrefined. Ecofriendly packaging. Perfect pure carrier oil for organic skincare cosmetic manufacturers and health food stores.

Giving Back to Communities

A dollar ($1) from every jar of coconut oil purchased goes to the Willem Sawang Foundation to help support development projects in sourcing communities. These projects includes water supply, birthing kits for village birth attendants to safely deliver babies in remote rural villages, village libraries for kids and supporting women and youth in agriculture.

Organic Sobari Oil

Sobari is our local vernacular name for calophyllum inophyllum. Commonly known as Tamanu in the Pacific Islands, Sobari is a tree that normally grows along the seashore and bears nuts from which the oil is extraced from the seed. For thousands of years, people of the Pacific used the barks, leaves, flowers and seeds of sobari for medicinal and beauty purposes. Sobari oil has anti-aging benefits, used for wound-healing and has anti-bacterial properties, Our second phase of our social initiative involves investment in the extraction of sobari oil that are wild-harvested by women. Extracting sobari oil is a very tedious process that derives only a small amount of oil. Your support in purchasing our coconut oil will enable us to bring you the pure organic sobari or tamanu oil.
